About
Digital Diva Connection is a community for women in digital, media and entertainment.
About
Webster’s dictionary defines a “diva” as a “distinguished female singer; prima donna”. Over the years, it’s evolved into an unflattering way to describe a talented female, who is also egotistical, unreasonable and temperamental.
If you are a successful woman in corporate America, you are a diva.
Where We Are Going
Digital Diva Connection is a community for women in digital, media and entertainment.
A big part of our mission statement is to redefine the term diva in a positive light. A Digital Diva is someone who
- Excels at what she does
- Works to add positive impact and influence within the digital and new media space
- Is a talented, modern woman with soul
How It All Started
Marian Thomas, a well-respected digital media executive, noticed that most of her industry’s influential groups were heavily represented by males. While women make up a strong percent of the new media sector, the boys’ club mentality rampant in the traditional media sector were making their way into the digital space. In an effort to crash the club, Marian decided to group up with like-minded women and face some fears about the ocean at the same time.
In 2004, Marian gathered women from some of the top industry media outlets to join her on an adventure to learn how to surf. Not only was it a physical challenge, but it allowed the women to spend some time together to talk about industry issues affecting them. Over time, yoga was added to the annual get-together and it’s been going strong ever since.
